RosesRoses Port Girona

Roses is a Mediterranean fishing town with a notable tourist and seafaring tradition and  also now boasts a new marina complex.  It is situated at the north of the Costa Brava, less than 30 kilometres from France, 65 kilometres from Girona and 160 kilometres from Barcelona.

Ciuitadella Roses Girona

Its origins go back to the 8th century BC with the arrival of the Rhodians and the foundation of the Greek city of Rhodes.

There is a great choice of restaurants to choose from, many specializing in fish dishes such as  suquet de peix  (fish and shellfish casserole), fresh fish from the bay and of course paella.

Roses has all  types of shops, a visit to the daily covered market is recommended where one can find fresh local produce including vegetables, meat and fish.  Also worth visiting is the fishing port itself, a good time is around 17.00hrs when the boats arrive to unload their catch which is auctioned there and then.  The public can also purchase the freshly caught produce from covered stalls.  Roses is  famous for its delicious king prawns and anchovies. On Sunday mornings there is a large market where locally grown produce can be found along with bargains in clothing, soft furnishings etc.
